Role Description

As a Volunteer Peer, you will offer informal peer support through listening, conversation and encouragement. You will help people feel welcome, connect with others and get involved in Discovery College activities. You may also: •Welcome and support people using the Discovery College Lounge. •Encourage positive wellbeing conversations and connection with others. •Promote Discovery College courses, activities and events. •Signpost people to further support where appropriate. •Help with refreshments, learning materials and keeping the lounge welcoming. Where appropriate, you may draw on your own lived experience to support others. This is not a counselling or clinical role, and you will be supported to maintain appropriate boundaries. ABOUT YOU We are looking for people who are: •Friendly, empathetic and non-judgemental. •Good listeners and comfortable talking to others. •Reliable and able to work as part of a team. •Respectful of confidentiality and individual differences. •Willing to learn. Lived experience of mental health challenges, or supporting someone with mental health challenges, is welcomed but not essential. Training Provided:

You will receive training and ongoing support from the Discovery College team, with opportunities to develop your confidence, communication and peer support skills.

You will also have access to free Discovery College courses and can receive a reference following successful volunteering.
